About AEDP™AEDP psychotherapy is an empirically supported model that heals trauma and helps to undo aloneness by championing the innate healing capacity of neuroplasticity in a safe, attached therapeutic relationship.
Through moment-to-moment, in-depth processing of difficult emotional and relational experiences, AEDP clinicians help clients recover their sense of core self and experience increased resilience and a renewed zest for life. AEDP has roots in many disciplines including interpersonal neurobiology, attachment theory, emotion theory and affective neuroscience, body-focused approaches as well as transformational studies. www.aedpinstitute.org |
What this study is aboutThe main goal of this study is to understand how therapeutic change occurs in AEDP. We would like to find out how people who come into therapy change, and what therapists do to facilitate such change. We will analyze videotaped sessions to describe effective patterns of interactions and in-session behaviors. We will also analyze the data gathered from various questionnaires to examine to what extent change occurred over the course of the therapy and how that change is maintained afterwards.

Who may participateThose who are beginning therapy with therapists whose approach is informed by AEDP are eligible to participate. You need to be over 21 year old. If you are under the care of psychiatrist or physician, please check if your participation may conflict with other medical treatments.
In addition, we have certain criteria in place due to the design of the study; we will use your responses to the initial set of questionnaires to determine if you are an appropriate patient for this study. Please also see "Who is NOT eligible below" if you are interested in whether you are a fit with the study at this time. |
More informationThis page provides a brief summary of what it means to participate in the research. More information is available in our consent form which you will receive prior to your first session.
If you have any questions, please make sure you ask your therapist. Thank you for your interest! |
An invitation to participateThe AEDP Institute is committed to deepening its understanding of how change takes place in psychotherapy by doing empirical research into AEDP therapy. If you haven't already done so, please read "About AEDP" above if you'd like to know more about AEDP as a therapy model.
We will be collecting data on the process and outcome of AEDP therapy. We would like to invite you to participate in this important endeavor, and we will be grateful and honored if you accept and agree to do so. The data we obtain will be analyzed by independent researchers approved by the AEDP Institute to investigate different aspects of process and outcome of AEDP, and may stored indefinitely as we will be analyzing it for different studies over time. What does it mean to participate?
